It was in the fall of 1920 that a holiness campaign was held in Eldon, MO by the Rev. R.T. Hodges and continued under the messages of Rev. L.W. Dodson, who was the Missouri District Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene at that time. This revival resulted in 18 of the individuals in attendance being led by the Holy Spirit, to join together as charter members to organize the Eldon Church of the Nazarene on October 17, 1920 with Mr. and Mrs. I.B. Medler serving as the first pastors of the congregation. Charter Members: Mrs. Etta Beard Miss Pauline Bradford Miss Ethel Boan Mrs. Fanny Boan Miss Mabel Cain Moses L. Cain Mrs. Rhoda Cain Mrs. Frances Davenport Charles Kellogg William A. McKinley Miss Eulah McMillian Lem Pace Mrs. Louise Pace Mrs. Alice Shelton Mrs. Nellie Simmons Mrs. Lela Watts Mrs. Ada Woods Charles Woods. The town of Eldon had only been in existence for 38 years when the church began, but with a population of about 2,600 people it was apparent there were souls to reach and the inspired group wasted no time in seeking a property in which they could begin their work. God provided the perfect building they needed, a movie house right downtown on Maple Street. However simple as the building was, it would still need a change of atmosphere from being known as “The Universal Theatre”, to the new church that would now be a refuge for those that were seeking a total transformation through this holiness message.
